Apple and its 30% Policy
I don’t have any problem with Apple taking 30% of subscription revenue for iPhone and iPad apps that leverage its new billing mechanism but I have a big problem with Apple requiring publishers to use that system. Given Apple’s magnitude right now that is asking for an anti trust action but for companies that have established billing relationships with customers that requirement seems unfriendly to developers and content providers. If Apple brings a customer and takes on collections risk through iTunes, take the 30% but let me as a developer choose if I want to go that route or use some other billing system. Come on Apple, this is not a good long term strategy. You’re smarter than that.
