Facebook search

A link to this page http://willmoffat.github.com/FacebookSearch/ was posted on TechCrunch today and while the story was all about privacy I think the missing story is all about Search. The story highlights privacy concerns by showing a search for “playing hooky” and shows many users who announced on their profiles that they are taking a day off from work or school. But a Facebook search service such as this could completely disrupt Twitter and ultimately Google. Twitter, as I’ve said before, is amazing for its realtimeness but it has so much noise its often hard to find the good stuff. Facebook on the other hand has a lot less noise as people tend to use their real identities and are linked to their real friends and family and so tend to be much more cautious about what they post. This has pros and cons but there is a lot less noise on Facebook and search like this could be game changing. Look out Twitter and even Google. Facebook could drop a game changer on you with search.
