Flickr, MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter…who’s next

It seems like each year over the last several years there is a new darling that pops up and is the next big thing. Twitter has been in the spotlight for a while, who’s next?

Flickr, in my opinion, put Web 2.0 on the map with their photo sharing service and API to enable third party integration. It was launched in 2004 and quickly snatched up by Yahoo! in 2005

MySpace was launch launched in 2003, before Flickr, but really gained momentum in 2004 and 2005 before selling to News Corp in 05 for 580 million

Facebook, founded in 2004 took off right away and became mainstream from 05-08. It is believed to be worth billions although still privately held

YouTube launched in 2005, gained momentum very quickly and was purchased by Google in 2006 for 1.6 billion

Twitter was created in 2006 but stormed the scene in 2007 and 2008 and is still gaining momentum today, also believed to be worth over a billion but remains privately held.

Who is next?
