Google Places – 1 out of 5 searches is location based

According to this post this morning on Google’s blog, 1 out of every 5 searches on Google is related to location. A reports from March 2009 had Google executing nearly 300 million searches per day which means 60 million location related searches every day and that is a year old so it is likely much bigger now. What that means for business is, you better find a way to get your location(s) into the search results. You can add your business to http://www.google.com/places for free. They also offer a premium service to highlight your business for $25 / month but given their new focus on location and the data, it makes sense to get your business listed in places quickly and keep it up to date.
