I don’t get Twitter
How many times have you heard someone say, “I don’t get Twitter.” I hear it all the time but yet they have over 100 million registered users who combine to tweet over 50 million times per day and 600 million search queries per day. So, if you are one of those people who is saying “I don’t get Twitter” you may want to take a second look. I get that there is something odd about posting short blurbs about your every day life (E.g. “I am sitting on the porch”) but do a search sometime on http://search.twitter.com during a major event be it a sporting event, election or natural disaster. It is amazing to see the pulse of what is going on in real time. Then try it on something smaller, like a local event such as a book signing or during an airline delay. I was on the Acela train to New York recently and did a Twitter search on Acela New York and about 5 other people had recently tweeted about activity on my very train. I looked around and found the guy who was being made fun of for talking too loud on his cell phone and also caught a comment from someone who had recently hit the snack bar to learn they were out of Diet Coke. The stream of information is getting updating so frequently and the tools for search are getting better and better that if you’re not paying attention to Twitter you should. There is interesting information flowing right now about something you are likely interested in. Check it out.
